This is a recent HRD Professional Handyman job: a newly installed glass shower screen in a Singapore bathroom. The photo was taken just after the screen was installed, so protective newspaper and tape are still in place around the fittings and the vanity.

What you can see in the photo

• Clear glass panels set around the shower area
• A metal top rail running across the top of the screen
• Newspaper and tape protecting the vanity, toilet seat and fittings, with some sheets marked “Do not use”

What to check on a new shower screen

Whether it is your own bathroom or a unit you are taking over, these quick checks are worth doing before you accept any shower screen:

• The glass panels sit straight and level, with even gaps between them.
• Any door or moving panel opens and closes freely without touching the walls, floor or fittings.
• Sealant lines, where used, are neat and continuous.
• There are no chips, cracks or deep scratches on the glass edges or corners.
• Handles, hinges and fixings feel firm.
• Water runs towards the floor drain and does not escape the shower area.

Problems are easier to point out and fix early, while the protective sheets are still up and the bathroom is not yet back in daily use.
